Checking your online processes

When’s the last time you tried to complete the call-to-action on your website?

Last week, I put my new beauty shop website live which carries direct integration into Worldpay and Paypal. It worked when testing so why try again when it goes live right? Wrong. The Paypal was fine, the Worldpay was broken. I only found out when I saw an abandoned cart for a £100 order.

Many marketers I speak to don’t ever treat their website like a user – how could they I suppose – which is why user testing is so important.

How many sales / enquiries are you missing out on all for the sake of a quick half hour check? And, even if it does work…. could it be even better / easier ?

This was great timing as I was mid-way through a check on a shop order process for a client.

An end to end check on a live system does help me sleep but it also allows me to see possible issues in the order process. Add a test product for £0.01 and make a live purchase. And then do a refund so you know that works too.

I am suprised though at how some shop owners don’t feel the need to do the same. If you had a High Street shop would you not want to know how your customers see you? It’s a great way of experiencing what your customers go through when they buy from you and as Craig said, maybe making it a better / easier experience for them.
