The right people to do business with

Today was a big day, that I allowed to pass by with a bit of a whimper. Sentimentality is not one of my strong points, so when I finally left The Escape today after 12 and a half years, I just… well… left.
That said, it has had me thinking the past few weeks about the past; setting up and growing a business; and the people you have around you along the way.
It’s funny, you see. I often hear about people falling out with their business partners, or not getting on, but for me… it was a breeze. Perhaps I got lucky when I met Rob Jones? Perhaps we are both as bad as each other? What did happen was that we were (are) a good team with a genuine bond of trust. I don’t think I’ll ever create that with anyone else in the same context.
Trust is so important in business, especially if you are sharing so much of your lives together. It’s like a second marriage, so it has to be right.
So. My advice. If you are ever setting up a business with someone, especially a small business; trust is paramount, and you know that niggily little voice in the back of your head? Listen to what it tells you… sooner, rather than later.
